Dear RotoRob: NL Sleeper Prospects

January 28, 2007 | by RotoRob | Comments (0)
Los Angeles Dodgers third base prospect Adam LaRoche should see some time at Chavez Ravine this year.
Los Angeles Dodgers third base prospect Andy LaRoche is a likely candidate to get an early call up from the minors this season.

Dear RotoRob,

I’m looking for your top three NL prospects who you think’will start off in the minors and be called up this year.

Thanks.

Larry (a loyal reader)

Hi Larry,

Here are three NL prospects that I really long long-term who I feel have a very good chance of helping this year:

  • Andy LaRoche, 3B, LAD: will be healthy and ready for ST, but will likely start the season in minors because of surgery.
  • Homer Bailey, RHP, CIN: Definitely will get a look, if he doesn’t win a job out of spring training.
  • Felix Pie, OF, CHI: May have to start out in minors if club doesn’t deal Jacque Jones, but is real close.

Flyer pick:

  • Andrew McCutchen, OF, PIT: Will start at Double-A, but could move fast.

Thanks and keep up the loyal reading, Larry!

Dear RotoRob,

The search for the next Ichiro is done. We just have to wait until 2009-10 for Norichika Aoki’s numbers to count. This guy is playing the game real smart and if he keeps it up I see the odds of him being posted as highly probable several years down the road. With the current posting process, those players that can rally the support of their teams will get a lot further than those trying to butt heads and deal in a confrontational manner. That just won’t wash in the NPB hierarchy, unless Scott Boras and the courts get involved.

More on Aoki.

Tim

Thanks, Tim.

NBA Daily Dose: Sweet 16

January 27, 2007 | by RotoRob | Comments (0)
Jamal Crawford wasn’t doing much standing around on Friday, lighting the Heat up for 52 points on a night he hit 16 straight shots. Oh man, talk about putting on a show. Jamal Crawford proved once again last night that when he’s on, he is an absolute beast. Sixteen straight shots? I mean, that’s just sick. [...] more

With 24 goals, just four behind his career best, Jason Blake has emerged as one of the biggest surprises in fantasy hockey in the first half. Not much in the world of fantasy hockey news since the league’s been off for nearly a week. In the meantime, let’s take a look at some fantasy pick surprises [...] more

Dear RotoRob: Cheese Doodles and Betty White

January 26, 2007 | by RotoRob | Comments (2)
Would RotoRob’s unhealthy obsession with cheese doodles repulse Betty White? Dear RotoRob, Re: Offseason Lowdown: Can Sammy Slam Again? I wonder if Betty White would go out with a guy who eats cheese doodles? Rick [Editorial note: Rick is referring to what I wrote in a column last week where I compared the 2007 version of Sammy Sosa [...] more

Dear RotoRob: Will Bonzi Have Value?

January 26, 2007 | by RotoRob | Comments (4)
Bonzi Wells makes an intriguing fantasy pickup because of his potential upside. Dear RotoRob, Hi. I am in a 10-team, eight-category rotisserie league. All of these players are available on my waiver wire. Can you rank the players for me in terms of who has the best value to the worst value? I need help mainly in FG%, FT%, [...] more
