[...] As much glee as the Red Sox fan in me extracts from the Yankees’ struggles this year, I know they will turn it around. In fact, just by pointing out how crappy they are playing, I am virtually assuring the team of a rapid turnaround (for reference sake, see what the Mariners have done since my damnation of them last week). Anyways, wasn’t it just two years ago that this team was in a similar predicament with an 11-19 start? A 10-game winning streak sure rendered that moot and the Yanks went on to win 95 games and the AL East title. [...]

[...] Okay, fair is fair. We bashed the Mariners earlier this week and they’ve won four straight since to get back to .500 and move within a hair of the AL West lead. Wins over Texas and KC won’t impress anyone, but in between Seattle swept a two-game mini set with division-leading Oakland. Adrian Beltre is suddenly rolling with back-to-back multi-hit games, including a three-RBI night on Friday. His average is still nothing to write home about, but give Beltre 15 RBI for the year now, which translates into a 135-RBI pace. He’s going to stick in the two-hole for the Mariners and may have been dropped in shallow mixed leagues, so keep an eye on him. [...]
