I think Dave there are several factors at work with regards to Santana. The top-tier bats this year are truly outstanding, driving Santana down a tad. Going 1-5 to close out 2007 wasn’t a real confidence booster. Finally the trend in building an offense before pitching as a strategy seems to be gaining momentum. I will agree with you that 24′th is imo sliding a bit to low. In MDC’s Expert Mock Draft this past Monday, he went with the 14′th pick, just about where I anticipated.

Todd. Todd, Todd… You know I could probably spend a full month just trying to sum up the frustrations of being a Cabrera owner, not to mention Scottie”friggin” Baker. Maybe once the wing gets a bit better I’ll vent a tad in that direction. Just curious how is Rickie Weeks doing these days?

Nice job. Its nice to finally see Lackey get the respect he deserves. Young? I agree with Todd. He should be ranked much higher. And could it be that Tim has at last realized that Zito is a big zit on anybody’s starting roster? He has seen the light. And finally, can anyone explain to me why Santana is going so late in Mock Drafts (ADP of 24th in my mock drafts) with the good chance he will be moving to one of the powerhouses?

I cant’ wait to read your rookie list Rob. That’s one of my favorite parts about Roto ball. In a keeper league like mine they’re big. Looking forward to your thoughts on the young guys.

You’re right, Todd, Cabrera should be in there, if for no other reason than he drive us NUTS! I personally am quite big on Young. His numbers scream out for more attention than he gets. As for Bonderman, it’s all about consistency. The talent is there (see first half), but…

Yeah, we’re going to do our annual rookie list soon, Thanks for the prodding. I plan to start researching that soon.

Somehow I knew Young would be a topic of conversation. It wouldn’t suprise me to see Young in the top 10 come year end, and at the same time I wouldn’t be shocked to see him spend a considerable amount of time on the dl. At 6′10″ and 260 that back issue is just a red flag I can’t ignore. Had the opportunity to see Carmona in early August and was very impressed, but again we do have a limited history and Todd you could be very well right. I’ve liked Bonderman for a long time, but he has a lot of miles on that still young arm. A breakout is possible, but so is the breakdown. Rob will be doing his annual “Spikes Up” rookie review in March so stay tuned for this annual look at those top prospects. Over the years I’ve been very fortunate in being able to identify those potential “sleepers”, so in-betwen surgeries hopefully can prepare my thoughts in this area for 2008.

Great job as usual Tim. First, no Daniel Cabrera even in the also rans. That my fried is a travesty. Second, I think Chris Young was under-ranked. Give him some love man and at least put him above AJ Burnett. My gut feeling tells me Carmona crashes this year. No hard evidence to back that up though, just a feeling. I’m going to predict a big breakthrough for Bonderman this year. He seems to crash in the second half. Wonder if it’s a conditioning thing. Are you going to do a rookie report. I’d like to see who you think might break through this year.
