I think you'll agree that the inability to find dependable No. 4 and 5 starters last year was the Braves' undoing. And James, who I'm still not convinced is 100 per cent healthy, wasn't exactly as solid as I would have hoped. So if Hampton can be a legitimate answer, I think that will be a huge bonus for the Braves. Depth can disappear real fast.

The Braves have enough potential starters this year (Smoltz, Hudson, Glavine, James, Jurjjens, Reyes, Bennett) to not have to worry about whether Hampton can stay healthy the whole season, if he does, it's a bonus. They're not depending on it though.

Nice analysis, Rob. From a fantasy perspective I am really looking forward to the competition this spring between Matt Diaz and Brandon Jones. Diaz hit .338 with 12 HRs, mainly against lefties and would have to be considered the early favourite. Jones hit .295 with 19 HR, 100 RBI and 17 SB between Double-A and Triple-A. The winner of this battle should be near the top of sleeper lists for the '08 season.

[...] RotoRob wrote an interesting post today on Will Braves Have Enough Pitching? Here’s a quick excerpt If the Braves plan to pen Mark Teixeira to a contract extension, they’ll have to deal with Scott Boras, a scenario very few find pleasurable. Okay, now that Alex Rodriguez has ditched him and Gary Sheffield is bad mouthing him, we have determined that the only person who still likes Scott Boras as his agent is Mark Teixeira. That’s going to be fun come contract negotiation time when the Braves try to lock Teixeira up to a long-term deal before he becomes a free agent after the 2008 season. G [...]
