I guess that's why 70 wins seems like a successful season for the Royals. Poor George Brett -- he must be embarrassed by the state of affairs in that organization these days.

Neffi Perez is a curse word in Kansas City. I thought that Berrora might turn out to be something, but I have never seen anyone regress so badly since Bob Hamlin. Don't get me wrong, I like Teahen and Buck, but they are role players not studs. What always burned my up about Baird, was when he was trading, he limited himself. Like with Beltran, he kept saying that the team wanted a catcher and a third baseman. Maybe if he would have said "I want someone with superstar potential," he could have got one of those guys no matter what the postition. Ugh!

Well, you get a ROY season out of Angel Berroa for Damon and Mark Ellis. Uh, ya.

And Mark Teahen (acquired in Beltran deal) looked good in 2006, although he's regressed since. And John Buck (same deal) showed some pop last year, although he's back to sucking. Uh, ya.

And what? You weren't happy with Neifi Perez (Dye deal) and his .260 OBP in 2002? Uh, ya.

Picky, picky! :)

Well Rob, it's been a loooooonnnnnnngggg hard road for us Royals fans (both of us). Those Herk Robinson GM years weren't fun. Of course that begs the question about how does a guy go from ordering paper cups to running the whole show. Herk tried, I give him credit. He's spent Ewing Kauffman's money to try to bring home a winner but those deals were so bad Royals fans are still scarred of free agency. Allard Baird was a bright baseball mind (from what I've heard) but that never showed with the product on the field. Baird just never had a plan. His lasting legacy will be getting hosed by Billy Beane in every trade he made with him. Come on. What have we got to show for Damon, Beltran and Dye - those guys were pretty good and should have commanded at least a few future studs - or even one. Ok, I'm going off on a rant here. I'll shut up.

Here's a bigger question: how exactly does one go about admitting they are a Royals' fan?

Thanks Todd for sharing your first-hand observations on Emil Brown. I will certainly agree that if his defence is that poor, tolerance will only last so long.

As a KC fan I can attest that Emil Brown can hit, but it's often his defense or lack thereof that gets his ass thrown to the pine. That and he has a knack for making boneheaded baserunning decisions. Maybe the change of scenery has done him well but there always comes a point with Emil where the manager just can't stand it anymore. Not that defense effects your fantasy stats, but getting benched for you defense does. Proceed with caution.
