[...] We recommended Castro as his big July wound down, and it was a good call as he continued to rake in August (.336), even though he failed to homer, drove in just nine runs and went an abysmal 1-for-5 on the basepaths. What we need to remember is that this kid is just 20, and like many youngsters his age, he’s prone to mental errors like what happened Sunday. Good for Quade to have the balls to sit the kid down for a couple of games to let him refocus and owners in daily leagues will need to make an adjustment to their lineups. Having said that, I’m still expecting a big finish from Castro, so if he’s been dumped in your league — which is possible depending on how shallow a league you’re playing in — and you need a boost in BA, don’t hesitate to add the youngster.
I totally agree with you, Markus. The PCL All-Star team will undoubtedly have a spot reserved for Gordon. I put him into the same group as Rickie Weeks. The potential for a great year is always there, but I know when or if it happens it won't be on any of my Fantasy teams. Good luck down the stretch in the dynasty league!

Gordon needs to stay healthy first and foremost. He has run into some terrible luck as far as that goes. So If you do the math and give him 600 at bats in 2007 + 2008, those are not bad numbers.

Now let's go to some folks that are much smarter then I:
Baseball America: They have done a pretty darn good job of predicting success.
Let take a look back along memory lane at the recently rated top 3 prospects per year.

2001: Josh Hamilton, Corey Peterson, Josh Beckett
2002: Beckett, Mark Prior, Hank Blalock
2003: Mark Teixera, Rocco Baldelli, Jose Reyes
2004: Joe Mauer, BJ Upton, Delmon Young
2005: Joe Mauer, Felix Hernandez, Delmon Young
2006: Delmon Young, Justin Upton, Brandon Wood
2007: Dice K, Alex Gordon, Delmon Young
2008: Jay Bruce, Evan Longoria, Joba Chamberlain
2009: Matt Weiters, David Price, Colby Rasmus

Out of these 24 names, I'm counting a few busts and a few maybes.
My point here is that pedigree matters. There are masses of failed prospects, but when u get the elite uber elite prospect status like Gordon did, usually it equates to major league success.

I'm setting the odds of Gordon becoming an all star at 85% probable.
The upside is too enormous to ignore.
(And yes I own him in our dynasty league!)

ALEX GORDON FOR:
PRESIDENT OF HOPE.

President of what would be my first question Markus? His alumni? Let's take a quick spy at some numbers here.

2006- AA- 29-101-22-.325
2007-KC-15-60-14-.247 543AB
2008-KC-16-59-9-.260 493 AB
2009-KC-6-22-5-.232 164 AB
2010-KC-1-1-0-.167 42 AB

After that incredible campaign at Double-A he has posted nothing but mediocrity in the bigs. Above average is not mid-teens power, especially at the hot corner and now that they've moved him to the outfield that mid-teen power and low BA doesn't stack up any better. Pedro Feliz is considered mediocre with the stick at 3B and Gordon has some work to do to get up to his career numbers. Gordo's career BA is .247 in a whopping 1,242 at-bats. He will be 27 next spring. Yes, he has the potential and pedigree to break out but so far has demonstrated no inclination to do so. How long do we wait for that "breakout year?" Delmon Young, even when struggling and "underachieving," managed to post a .288 BA in 07, .290 in 09, and .284 in 09. Shall we review Gordon's BA so far in comparison? Delmon is a full two years younger than Gordon and as a 22-year-old in 2007 drove in 93 runs -- 33 more than Gordon's best effort. I don't hate Gordon, as a matter of fact I wish Alex Gordon and his owners nothing but the best. I'm just tired of waiting for something that I don't believe will ever arrive. I'm just curious, Markus, you don't own him in that 911 Dynasty league by any chance do you?

RotoRob: A Gordon hater huh?
Brandon Wood???
Gordon has already shown above average performance in the majors.
Wood has never come close.
The name I want to throw into the mix here is Mr Delmon Young.
Same type of pedigree. Last year even the year before people declared him a bust.

No such thing as a Quad A player.

ALEX GORDON FOR PRESIDENT!!!
