[...] Pittsburgh scored three times in the eighth on Sunday to rally past the D-Backs, with Walker’s two-run homer the key blow. It’s nice to see Walker hitting again. He had been slumping in the past week, but came through with four hits, two homers and five RBI this weekend. Walker looked really strong in July and August, so hopefully this weekend portents a hot end to his season. If Walker can improve his batting eye, I think he has a chance to be a .315 hitter with around 20 homers and perhaps 10 steals – not too shabby for a second baseman that was on the wire in shallower leagues in late July.
One of the inherent problems in shallow leagues is the constant source of talent available from the waiver wire. Now that we're on the verge of heading into football season, the problem is magnified as many Fantasy players running non-contending teams simply walk away, leaving the talent source and options even greater. I certainly agree that Huff and Young are great pickups as are Bourn, Lee, Pagan and Stanton and, from a pitching perspective, Bumgarner, De La Rosa, Anibal Sanchez and Wade Davis. Looking at this week, Stanton was almost a must sit in weekly leagues-facing solid rotations in the Giants and Padres on the road -- and thus far he has two homers and six RBI. The trick is to pick the right week for the right results and in shallow leagues with the depth of talent available it is a challenge to say the least.

Jay needs to drop Beltran and Stubbs and pickup Huff and Delmon Young. Can't believe those guys are available.
