The Wire Troll: Jason Richardson is Back

March 7, 2015 | By McCade Pearson | comment on this post
Alexey Shved has played well since getting traded to the New York Knicks.

The NBA is starting to heat up as 21 teams are within two games of a playoff spot; the Hawks became the first team to clinch a playoff berth; and Russell Westbrook ran off four straight triple doubles, including back-to-back efforts with 40 points. The NBA is starting to get into playoff mode as the regular season’s end is just over a month away.

Without further ado, here are this week’s Fantasy basketball waiver wire recommendations.

GUARDS

Alexey Shved, PG/SG, New York Knicks (ESPN: 1.0 per cent; CBS: 8 per cent): Shved has started to pick up some PT in New York, averaging 21 minutes if you don’t include the game after he arrived. In those five games he is averaging 12 points and five assists. Yes, Shved has been an erratic shooter throughout his career (see video below), but is a sneaky plug and play in deeper formats.

Jason Richardson, SG, Philadelphia 76ers (ESPN: 5.7 per cent; CBS: unowned): After not playing in the NBA for over two years due to injury, Richardson is back on the court and starting to look like his old self. In 11 games he has averaged 12 points, four boards and a steal while shooting 38 per cent from deep and 90 per cent from the line. J-Rich is sitting out Saturday for rest, so he isn’t all the way back. But when he plays he is worth something.

FORWARDS

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, SF/PF, Philadelphia 76ers (ESPN: 23.5 per cent; CBS: 30 per cent): Not a flashy pick up, but Mbah a Moute is worth a look. He has been playing well late, with an 18-point, 14-rebound, five-assist game against the Thunder on Wednesday. Even on a bad team, a guy getting 30 minutes per game needs to be owned.

Cody Zeller, PF, Charlotte Hornets (ESPN: 4.2 per cent; CBS: 29 per cent): A player who is averaging nine rebounds in his last seven games and has scored in double figures in his last five, Zeller has come on strong for the Hornets, making him a great pickup with low risk. Consider Zeller as a player who could help you win your league.

CENTRES

Alexis Ajinca, New Orleans Pelicans (ESPN: 7 per cent; CBS: 19 per cent): Ajinca is another big man getting it going at the right time. Over his last seven games, he is averaging 11 points and seven rebounds with at least one block in every game — all while coming off the bench. A large part of Ajinca’s surge has to do with Anthony Davis’ injury. With AD back it will be interesting to see what happens to Ajinca, but it is certainly worth keeping an eye on him.

Brandan Wright, PF/C, Phoenix Suns (ESPN: 2.2 per cent; CBS: 15 per cent): Wright is back in The Troll for a third time just a few weeks after we last recommended him. He didn’t shoot it as well in January, improved his FT shooting last month and is now playing more minutes, making him worth another look. In the last two games, Wright has played an average of 24 minutes, and on Friday, he flashed his skills, going 5-for-5 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line for 14 points and eight boards. His final two free throws helped seal the win for the Suns. Need a plug and play option for Saturday? Wright’s a nice bet.
