For some, it is almost a good thing that the Olympic break is a few weeks away. The waiver wires just keep getting thinner and thinner, ladies and gentlemen. So the next few weeks will have some lighter editions of The Wire Troll. Sometimes efficiency is best in columns like these.

On the bright side, there will be some promotional things going on. After all, the break means a new form of Fantasy hockey for the masses. Stay tuned for details, but Olympic Fantasy hockey will be a reality in a big big way. Here at RotoRob.com, we will try our best to handicap it for you so the best decisions can be made in your box pools.

Just as an aside, watch for some out of control statistics from the Vancouver-Calgary game Saturday. Do not get fooled into picking players that had their numbers skewed by the fights and line brawl. So if you see some 30-to-35 minute ATOIs, that is why.

It is time to span the Fantasy waiver wires for a few more picks that may help you in your leagues. Let’s step into the Wire Troll and have some fun.

Ryane Clowe, LW, New Jersey Devils: The first part of the season was shrouded in frustration for Clowe owners, but now all that seems to be water under the bridge. A week ago he scored his first goal of the season (see video below) and now has nine points in the last seven games — which just cannot be ignored. His linemates (Adam Henrique and Michael Ryder, who like Clowe is a Newfoundland native) are riding the wave plus the physical play. Clowe can be a force. This snippet is just proof that he can be what he once was or at least close to it. Remember, next Sunday is the Stadium Series game and his former team (the Rangers) and that motivation could translate into another Fantasy bonanza for Clowe owners.

David Legwand, C, Nashville Predators: As crazy as it seems, Legwand just keeps producing assists (25 in 49 games). His overall output is right at about two points for every three games. Amazingly, Legwand is owned in only 15-to-25 per cent of all leagues and platforms. That is mostly because he only has eight goals on the season, and the other fear is that somehow he will end up getting traded, after which he might turn back into a dud again. That is the thing with this once top draft pick — at times, Legwand looks like he could be that player and then other times he doesn’t.

Patric Hornqvist, RW, Nashville Predators: Hornqvist is the type of player that should be finding the back of the net easier, however, he has just nine goals despite nearly 150 shots on net. He is owned in 20-to-25 per cent of all leagues partly because of the team he plays for. The second reason is the lack of execution, particularly when it comes to man advantage situations. We are talking about a player that should easily surpass 25 goals and 250 shots a season. If only Nashville had more offensive punch… if only!

Jacob Trouba, D, Winnipeg Jets: The numbers do not lie. Among defensemen, Trouba has upper echelon talent. He is owned in 25-to-30 per cent of all leagues and has five goals in his last nine games. The shot totals along with the average time on ice are on the rise, as are some of his other numbers. Playing with the likes of Dustin Byfuglien and Tobias Enstrom cannot hurt. Scoring is to be had in Winnipeg if Trouba steps up.
