2010 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit: Updated Position Rankings

September 8, 2010 | by HC Green | Comments Comments Off on 2010 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit: Updated Position Rankings
Matthew Stafford is poised to become a great quarterback for the Detroit Lions.
Last year’s No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford is already a top 20 QB.

As a final bonus to the 2010 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit, we’ve made some adjustments to our Cheat Sheets based on recent activity. Under each position, you will find a brief explanation of the changes made. Note that player tiering is affected in many cases.

Green Bay Packers Gear

Changes:

  • Based on the absence of Vincent Jackson, Philip Rivers drops to 6, with Matt Schaub moving up to 5.
  • Because of his shaky preseason, Kevin Kolb drops from 9 to 11 (Jay Cutler moves up to 9 and Joe Flacco, bolstered by the addition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh, moves up to 10).
  • Former No. 22 Matt Leinhart has been removed from the list after being released, so everyone below him moves up one slot and Kyle Orton has been added to the list.

Changes:

  • Ray Rice moves up to 3, with Maurice Jones-Drew dropping to 4.
  • Ryan Grant rises from 9 to 8, Rashard Mendehall rises from 11 to 9 and DeAngelo Williams drops from 8 to 10.
  • Cedric Benson drops from 10 to 15 while Knowshon Moreno, Shonn Greene, Ryan Matthews and Beanie Wells all rise one slot. In the case of Wells, Leinhart’s inability to seize the starting job turns the offense over to Derek Anderson, whose inaccurate passes don’t mesh with Ken Whisenhunt’s style. As a result, look for more running from the Cardinals.
  • Jamaal Charles moves up one slot to 16, with LeSean McCoy dropping one slot to 17.
  • Jonathan Stewart rises one slot to 18, while Pierre Thomas drops one slot to 19.
  • Montario Hardesty’s season-ending ACL injuries leaves Jerome Harrison as the undisputed No. 1 back for the Browns, so he rises from 25 to 22.
  • Ricky Williams rises from 26 to 23, while Matt Forte, Felix Jones and Brandon Jacobs all slip two slots.
  • Jahvid Best drops from 30 to 33 while C.J. Spiller rises from 31 to 30 and Darren McFadden moves up from 33 to 31.
  • With Ben Tate on the IR that leaves just Steve Slaton to take carries from Arian Foster, so Foster moves up from 37 to 35, dropping Thomas Jones and Donald Brown down one slot each.
  • Darren Sproles (38) and Tim Hightower (39) have been added to the list, dropping LaDainian Tomlinson from 38 to 40 and dropping Laurence Maroney and Cadillac Williams off the top 40.

56. Mohammed Massaquoi, Cleveland Browns, 12
57. Early Doucet, Arizona Cardinals, 12
58. Joey Galloway, Washington Redskins, 12
59. Devin Hester, Chicago Bears, 17
60. Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 12

Changes:

  • Reggie Wayne rises from 4 to 2 and Larry Fitzgerald rises from 6 to 4, while Randy Moss slips from 2 to 3 and Miles Austin falls from 3 to 10.
  • Roddy White rises one spot to 6, while Brandon Marshall moves up from 10 to 7.
  • Greg Jennings rises from 11 to 9, while Marques Colston slips from 9 to 11.
  • Smith Smith (NYG), who was 12, flips positions with former No. 13 Anquan Boldin.
  • Hines Ward rises from 26 to 14, with Steve Smith (CAR) and Chad Ochocinco slipping one spot each.
  • Dwayne Bowe drops from 16 to 21 and Mike Sims-Walker slips from 19 to 20 while Michael Crabtree rises from 18 to 17, Pierre Garcon goes from 22 to 18 and Hakeem Nicks moves up from 21 to 19.
  • Wes Welker drops from 20 to 22.
  • Donald Driver rises from 27 to 23.
  • Jeremy Maclin has been added at No. 24, while Mike Wallace slips from 24 to 25.
  • Percy Harvin has dropped from 17 to 26.
  • Malcom Floyd has risen from 30 to 27 because he’s now the top WR in San Diego, while Robert Meachem drops from 23 to 28.
  • Braylon Edwards soars from 39 to 29, while Santana Moss slips from 25 to 30.
  • Lee Evans is up one spot to No. 31, while Bernand Berrian rises from 49 to 32 because Sidney Rice will be missing for at least half the season.
  • Steve Breaston drops from 29 to 34.
  • Dez Bryant soars from 54 to 35 and Johnny Knox rises from 42 to 36 while Kenny Britt slips from 34 to 37 in the wake of an uninspired preseason, Derrick Mason drops from 28 to 38, Terrell Owens falls from 35 to 39 and Devin Aromashodu plummets from 31 to 40.
  • Louis Murphy is added to the list at No. 41, while Austin Collie slips from 38 to 42.
  • Eddie Royal rises from 51 to 43, Laurent Robinson is added at 44 because of Donnie Avery is on the IR (this also makes Sam Bradford a better than expected option, although he didn’t crack the top 60), Vincent Jackson moves up from 60 to 45 (although the holdout and San Diego’s inability to trade him makes us wonder when he’ll play next) and Devery Henderson shoots up from 56 to 46 while Nate Burleson slips from 47 to 43.
  • Mike Williams (SEA) is added to the list at 48 as he’s set to start and maybe will finally realize his pro potential while Sidney Rice falls from 47 to 49 as he’s on the PUP now and is currently a risky pick but still has the potential to help Fantasy teams down the stretch.
  • Legedu Naanee has been added to the list at 50 as he will start with Jackson MIA. Naaneed is a decent player that should benefit from plenty of single coverage.
  • Josh Morgan has been added to the list at 51 while Jerricho Cotchery drops from 40 to 52 and Kevin Walter slips from 45 to 53.
  • Jacoby Jones is added to the list at No. 54 as he’s showing a lot of potential in an explosive passing game, making him a nice late-round sleeper, while Mario Manningham drops from 41 to 55.
  • Mohamed Massaquoi rises from 57 to 56 and Early Doucet (57) is added to the list.
  • Joey Galloway (58) is added to the list as he while start opposite Santana Moss while Devin Hester slips from 55 to 59 and Mike Williams (TB) plummets from 46 to 60.
  • Falling out of the top 60: Jabar Gaffney (36), Chris Chambers (was 37, but KC’s passing game looks inept), Chaz Schilens (43), Roy E. Williams (44), Julian Edelman (48), Demaryius Thomas (50, injured most of the preseason and may be behind the eight-ball all season long, but still holds nice keeper potential), Anthony Gonzalez (52), Davone Bess (53), Devin Thomas (58) and Arrelious Benn (59, who was beaten out for a starting job).

Tight Ends

2. Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers, 1
3. Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers, 2
4. Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers, 2
5. Brent Celek, Philadelphia Eagles, 2
6. Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons, 2
7. Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys, 2
8. Kellen Winslow, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 3
9. Owen Daniels, Houston Texans, 3
10. Chris Cooley, Washington Redskins, 3
11. Zach Miller, Oakland Raiders, 4
12. Visanthe Shiancoe, Minnesota Vikings, 4
13. John Carlson, Seattle Seahawks, 4
14. Greg Olsen, Chicago Bears, 4
15. Todd Heap, Baltimore Ravens, 4
16. Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers, 4
17. Jeremy Shockey, New Orleans Saints, 5
18. Kevin Boss, New York Giants, 5
19. Dustin Keller, New York Jets, 5
20. Fred Davis, Washington Redskins, 5

Changes:

  • Greg Olsen rises from 16 to 14, shifting up into tier 4. He didn’t post great pre-season numbers, but neither did the rest of the Bears’ No. 1 offense. Still, we don’t think Olsen is going to get frozen out under Mike Martz.
  • Todd Heap moves up from 19 to 15, shifting up into tier 4. He looked great in the preseason and is supposedly fully healthy for the first time in years.
  • Heath Miller slips from 14 to 16, Jeremy Shockey falls from 15 to 17, Kevin Boss drops from 17 to 18 and Dustin Keller also slips one spot from 18 to 19.

Place Kickers

1. Nate Kaeding, San Diego Chargers, 1
2. Ryan Longwell, Minnesota Vikings, 1
3. Stephen Gostkowski, New England Patriots, 1
4. Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers, 2
5. Garrett Hartley, New Orleans Saints, 2
6. Rob Bironas, Tennessee Titans, 2
7. David Akers, Philadelphia Eagles, 2
8. Jay Feely, Arizona Cardinals, 3
9. Matt Prater, Denver Broncos, 3
10. Lawrence Tynes, New York Giants, 3
11. Robbie Gould, Chicago Bears, 3
12. Neil Rackers, Houston Texans, 4
13. Jeff Reed, Pittsburgh Steelers, 4
14. Dan Carpenter, Miami Dolphins, 4
15. Matt Bryant, Atlanta Falcons, 4

Changes:

  • Neil Rackers has been added at No. 12 as he who won the kicking job over Kris Brown and is now kicking for a powerful offense.
  • The three kickers below Rackers all slip one spot, and Shayne Graham, who was previously 15, has been knocked off the list.

Team Defenses

1. New York Jets, 1
2. Green Bay Packers, 1
3. Baltimore Ravens, 1
4. Philadelphia Eagles, 2
5. Minnesota Vikings, 2
6. Dallas Cowboys, 2
7. Pittsburgh Steelers, 2
8. San Francisco 49ers, 2
9. New Orleans Saints, 3
10. New York Giants, 3
11. Cincinnati Bengals, 4
12. Chicago Bears, 4
13. Denver Broncos, 4
14. San Diego Chargers, 4
15. New England Patriots, 5
16. Miami Dolphins, 5
17. Houston Texans, 6
18. Cleveland Browns, 6
19. Indianapolis Colts, 6
20. Tennessee Titans, 6

2010 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit: Wide Receiver Rankings

September 7, 2010 | by Derek Jones | Comments (0)
I’ll be honest. I can’t think of ten receivers that I’m incredibly high on in 2010. There are just red flags nearly with every player, especially in the top ten.

Meanwhile, without a stellar running game, Schaub attempted 583 passes in ’09. If the running game doesn’t turn it around, envisioning Schaub dropping back 600 times without suffering some sort of an injury may be wishful thinking.

2010 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit: Team Defenses

September 1, 2010 | by Buck Davidson | Comments Comments Off on 2010 RotoRob NFL Draft Kit: Team Defenses
All right, so maybe grabbing a Fantasy defense isn’t at the top of your priority list on draft day. That’s a good call: the points separation between defensive units often does not warrant the extra money or higher draft pick necessary to land one of the “elite” units. Still, you don’t want to end up with one of the sad-sack franchises, so it’s important to know when it’s most advantageous to make your move.

After being hampered by a toe injury throughout much of 2008, Gates rebounded last year to post a career-high 1,157 receiving yards. He also added eight touchdowns, marking the sixth straight season he’s tallied at least that many.
