Dear RotoRob: Dealing Stud Point Guards

December 5, 2010 | by RotoRob | Comments (0)
Stephen Curry is having a big year for the Golden State Warriors.
Stephen Curry is a fine buy-low target.

Dear RotoRob,

Another owner in my league has offered me Stephen Curry for my Russell Westbrook. What do you think, RotoRob? Fair trade?

Kev

Hi Kev,

Very interesting trade offer. That owner obviously believes that Curry won’t start delivering on his first round status, while Westbrook’s amazing start is the real deal. While I believe that Westbrook can in fact continue to scorch (but maybe not to the extent he has — especially once Kevin Durant and Jeff Green are fully healthy), there are other considerations here. For starters, does your league count FG percentage? If so, adding Curry would definitely be sweet. And if your team is hurting for treys, again, Curry is your man — he can win you that category.

The other biggie here is turnovers. If your league tracks those, again, my money is on Curry.

I definitely believe this is a fair trade, and you’ve got to figure this is a classic sell high, buy low deal (not that Curry is sucking, but we know he’s capable of more, and the ankle issue was definitely hindering him for a while, plus Monta Ellis can’t stay this hot forever, right?).

If FG percentage and turnovers are a factor, make the deal.

Dear RotoRob: Week 11 FLEX Help

November 20, 2010 | by RotoRob | Comments (0)
At its heart, Fantasy football is all about opportunities — you want the guys that are going to have a lot of chances to help you. Because of that, Jackson is definitely one of your picks, even in what could be a tough matchup on the road. Bottom line, Jackson is going to get in the neighborhood of 15 touches and that means he’s got a chance to make an impact. Plus, he accounted for 104 yards and a touchdown vs. Minny in Week Seven.

Dear RotoRob: They’re Dropping Like Flies

As for your choices, they’re all pretty marginal. Everyone is on the road against solid or better pass defenses. Under other circumstances, I’d take my chances with Kitna because of all the guys they have, but Green Bay shut that offense down with Romo at the helm last season, and the Packers are familiar with Kitna from his Motown days. Freeman played pretty well in Atlanta last year (250 passing yards, two TDs, no INTs) and is probably the safest selection.

Dear RotoRob: Flex Help for Week Six

For the other, I don’t really think there’s much of an argument for Amendola. Catching 12 passes in a 38-point loss means next to nothing, and the fact that he hasn’t scored all season while Britt has scored in three straight makes Britt the smarter play.

Dear RotoRob: The Dangers of Micromanaging

October 1, 2010 | by HC Green | Comments (0)
I know playing the matchups can be tempting, but I firmly believe you don’t bench a stud — and right now, the Steelers’ defense is a stud Fantasy unit. Even looking at the matchups, what has Baltimore’s offense done to make you worry? They scored 20 points combined in two games against New York and Cincinnati with six turnovers, and right now Pittsburgh’s D is better than either of those so I’d stick with them.
