Podcast: Masahiro Tanaka Goes Down

May 1, 2015 | by RotoRob | Comments Comments Off
Joe Maddon was hired by the Chicago Cubs on the up and up.
The Cubs were cleared of tampering accusations regarding Joe Maddon’s hiring. (Calltothepen.com)

RotoRob Fantasy Baseball Weekly Podcast — heard every Thursday at 9 p.m. EST on Blogtalkradio — was back in action as RotoRob was joined by Peter Kreutzer (AKA, RotoMan) of the Fantasy Baseball and Football Guides.

Among the topics we kicked into submission:

  • Coming into the season, Masahiro Tanaka and Yu Darvish were in a race to see who would go down first.
  • Chase Whitley isn’t a big strikeout guy.
  • The Matts — Carpenter and Adams — led the way as the Cardinals continue to roll.
  • Carlos Villanueva looks like a spot starter candidate.
  • Huston Street nailed down another save, but it wasn’t an elegant one by any means.
  • We provide a scouting report on lefty Nathan Kirby, one of the top prospects of the 2015 MLB Draft.
  • We discuss the idea of adding more teams to the playoff mix.
  • Is there more to the Joe Maddon tampering story than what we’ve heard?
  • It was a tough call going ahead with Wednesday’s game in Baltimore in front of an empty stadium.

The Wire Troll: Luis Valbuena is Bueno

April 26, 2015 | by Michael Seff | Comments (2)
Speaking of third basemen with spiking ESPN ownership (he’s up nearly 25 percentage points in the last week), Middlebrooks is starting to show moderate flashes of what the Red Sox had long hoped for. He’s hit safely in 10 of 11 games and has shown some pop with three homers and 11 RBI, even throwing in a couple of stolen bases for good measure.

2015 RotoRob Third Base Rankings

April 25, 2015 | by RotoRob | Comments Comments Off
Beltre is getting long in the tooth, but remains one of the safest options at third base. He got off to a bit of a slow start in 2015 before snapping a mini skid. Many believe that Beltre will really regress this year, and certainly the power drop off last year was worrisome, but we’ll believe it when we see it. We’re definitely expecting his BA to dip after last year’s .345 BABIP, but otherwise he’ll be a very productive option once again.

The Wire Troll: Joel Peralta Saving the Dodger Bullpen

April 19, 2015 | by RotoRob | Comments Comments Off
Talk about a dude coming out of nowhere. How often does a Rule 5 pick win a starting job? Herrera broke camp as the Phillies’ centre fielder and has been making a real impact recently. Over the last four games, he has three multi-hit efforts (twice getting three hits) with four runs, three doubles, two triples and two steals. Batting leadoff for the Phils, Herrera has been a real bright spot, especially now that the runs are coming. He needs to make better contact, but is already showing signs that he’s capable of adjusting on the fly.

Book Review: Winning Fantasy Baseball

May 16, 2014 | by Josh Johnson | Comments Comments Off
Are you like most Fantasy baseball owners? Do you buy those magazines early on and then chop and decipher your draft strategy? What exactly do those print media items give to you? You probably appreciate having them at your disposal during your draft and it’s always nice to know who is on or off the 40-man roster.
