Our advice: buy a good closer, add a solid mid-tier one and then start tossing darts. Lots of ’em. With a projected closer turnover rate of around 25 to 30 per cent, you’ll be using the wire quite a bit to round out your pen.

“Chi Chi” rates high across the board, but what really caught our eye was the progress he made in 2014 in terms of limiting baserunners as he seems to be improving as he moves up the Ranger system. Last year, Gonzalez proved he can win at High-A and barely skipped a beat after moving to Double-A, recording a sparkling 2.70 ERA in 15 games (14 starts). He’s moving towards Texas very, very quickly.

Considered by most publications to be one of the top handful of prospects, if the not the best of the bunch, Buxton will nonetheless open the 2015 season in the minors for some seasoning (and to prevent his service-time clock from starting). He is long on talent — excellent speed, developing power, ferocious bat speed, etc. — but short on experience with just three at-bats above High-A. It’s possible the Twins could hold Buxton back until 2016, but a more likely scenario is a late-June promotion. If that happens, pounce.

Cano gets paid way more than any other second baseman, but now that he plays half his games at Safeco, he does not stand head and shoulders above everyone else at the position. Don’t get us wrong — you’ll still get fantastic production from this dude; we’re just saying there are now other options.

Posey remains the clear top choice because he so seldom comes out of the lineup, playing first base when he’s not catching. Last year, he reached 170 hits for the second time and his slugging bounced back. Posey also qualifies at First Base.
