Welcome back to another week of Fantasy hockey. Last week, we recommended Jason Pominville and we sure hope you took our advice as all he’s done is log another four helpers in four games since then.

This week, the Penguins have lost Olli Maatta in the wake of hand surgery; the Devils landed Viktor Loov in a trade with the Leafs for Sergey Kalinin; and Antoine Vermette got a 10-game suspension for slashing a linesman.

Without further ado, here are some players we recommend for your Fantasy hockey team…

Brandon Dubinsky, C, Columbus Blue Jackets (ESPN: 47.7 per cent; CBS: 36 per cent): Dubinsky is really coming on strong lately. His roll started at home against the Detroit Red Wings when he picked up two assists. Then, against his former team, the New York Rangers, Dubinsky scored a goal. Against a surging Toronto Maple Leafs team, he picked up a key assist in the victory, and on Friday, he potted the overtime goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins (see video below). In the month of February, Dubinsky has scored three times, and picked up nine points while registering an impressive +9. He’s been averaging about 18-to-19 minutes and three shots this month.

Christian Dvorak, C, Arizona Coyotes (ESPN: 4.3 per cent; CBS: 17 per cent): The former second round pick is currently playing outstanding hockey. In Calgary, Dvorak scored twice as part of a three-point game, going +3 in a shutout victory over the Flames. Then, on Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings, he picked up an assist, and once again was a +3 in another win. In the month of February, Dvorak has scored eight points (five goals, three assists) while going +5. He’s averaging about 16 minutes, but recently his ice time has increased, since he is being used on the power play more often.

Patrik Berglund, C, St. Louis Blues (ESPN: 15.6 per cent; CBS: 10 per cent): February has been a highly productive month for Berglund. In a five-game stretch, he’s scored six goals for the Blues, with the main highlight in this streak being a hat trick, including the game winner, on the road against the Montreal Canadiens. Berglund’s offensive run has caused St. Louis to give him much more ice time, as he’s gone from 14 to 18 minutes a game, and is on the first power play unit.

Brady Skjei, D, New York Rangers (ESPN: 25.3 per cent; CBS: 50 per cent): Skjei has been producing in February, picking up six assists this month, including two-assist games against the Anaheim Ducks and the New York Islanders. He’s averaging between 17 and 20 minutes and in the last four games, he’s averaging about three shots.

Alexander Edler, D, Vancouver Canucks (ESPN: 15.2 per cent; CBS: 15 per cent): This Swede has become a workhorse. Not only he is the top blueliner on the team in terms of ice time (averaging 23-to-26 minutes), but in the past seven games, Edler has picked up six points (two goals, four assists), and two of those points were on the power play. He doesn’t help with his +/- because he is out on the ice so much for a bad team, but being on the top line, he could continue racking up the points for Vancouver, as it tries to make a push for the playoffs.

Now it’s your turn. Let us know in the comments below who your favourite Fantasy hockey waiver wire pick of the week is.

Backstrom’s linemate has also scored 10 points (3G-7A) in the past five games and was +4 during this stretch. Oshie is averaging about 16 minutes, and over the last five games he’s put up 11 shots. So far this season in 37 games, he has tabulated 30 points (16G-14A), and is an eye opening +20.

The Wire Troll: Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes Hit Pittsburgh Penguins

December 13, 2015 | by Dakota Case | Comments Comments Off
The Pens were 4-3-3 in their past 10 at the time of the coaching change, dropping a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday. The move is rather an intriguing one, considering Pittsburgh was on the losing end of a tie with the Boston Bruins for the last wild card spot in the East, and just seven points behind the Metropolitan-leading Washington Capitals at the time.

Mike Johnston Fired

December 12, 2015 | by Scott Maran | Comments (1)
The Pens are kind of stuck in the middle of the Metropolitan Division, and were recently passed in the standings by the Devils, which likely prompted the move (although it’s been building for some time). Overall, Pittsburgh was 58-37-15 under Johnston.
