The Wire Troll: Mario Hejonza Spurs Magic in Orlando

Welcome back to another week of Fantasy basketball action.

This week, three time all-star Stephen Curry received a Jordan brand collaborated, customized jacket from an all-star of another genre — rapper Drake (what doesn’t Curry deserve?); Rajon Rondo nearly dropped an F-bomb in a post-game interview; and Shaquille O’Neal released a photoshopped picture of himself dunking on Dwight Howard at random — claiming that there could only be one Superman.

Things have slowed down on the waiver wire since the trade deadline and buyout season, but we’ve still managed to offer up some decent recommendations for this week…

GUARDS

Gary Harris, SG, Denver Nuggets (ESPN: 25.7 per cent; CBS: 46 per cent): Harris has now scored not only double-digits, but 15-plus over a five game stretch. He produced 21 points, three rebounds, three assists, two assists and a block in a loss against the Nets Friday. Harris is averaging 30-plus minutes, and trying to pick up the offensive slack in Denver with Danilo Galinari (ankle) sidelined. Harris is worth owning as an offensive contributor and hopefully can maintain his recent consistency.

Donald Sloan, PG, Brooklyn Nets (ESPN: 20.7 per cent; CBS: 44 per cent): With Joe Johnson out the picture, Sloan is another backcourt player whose production could pick up in due time. As the Nets’ primary ball handler, he should be seeing no less than 30 minutes a game, and offers enough Fantasy value even if it’s mainly just a bump in the assists category.

FORWARDS

Mario Hezonja, SF/SG, Orlando Magic (ESPN: 4.8 per cent; CBS: 22 per cent): There’s a new “Super Mario” in town (move over, Mario Chalmers) in swingman Hezonja. The high flyer (who is probably taking tips from teammate and dunk contestant finalist Aaron Gordon), drained three treys (check out his superb catch and shoot skills in the video below) en route to 21 points, with five rebounds, two assists, one steal and a block in 37 minutes as the Magic beat the Bulls Wednesday. It was by far Hezonja’s best career performance, and it seems he’s found a few mushrooms of his own in Orlando. With increased minutes, Hezonja may become even more super and worthy of a long look in deeper leagues.

Kris Humphries, PF, Atlanta Hawks (ESPN: 1.9 per cent; CBS: 11 per cent): Humphries made his debut Friday as the newest member of the Hawks, delivering 14 points, eight rebounds, a block and a steal in a victory over the Lakers. It was a highly productive outing for just 22 minutes of action, and probably surprised Fantasy owners nearly as much as him even canning a three pointer in the game. Though Humphries’ exact role in Atlanta still hasn’t been determined, his ability to provide in multiple categories offers hope he can revitalize his career and potentially be an asset in Fantasy leagues.

CENTRES

Joffrey Lauvergne, Denver Nuggets (ESPN: 2.6 per cent; CBS: 10 per cent): In mid-November, we recommended Lauvergne when he was close to returning from injury. Well, he looked pretty good upon his return, but got very few touches in January and saw even less PT in February. Recently, however, Lauvergne is delivering some Fantasy worthy performances off the Nugget bench, pulling down 10 boards in 26 minutes Wednesday and following that up with a 14-point showing Friday. The minutes are inconsistent, so for now, this is a deep league special only, but if this dude starts regularly seeing closer to 25 minutes, he can do some damage.

Frank Kaminsky, Charlotte Hornets (ESPN: 5.1 per cent; CBS: 31 per cent): We recommended Kaminsky in January, but he struggled with his FT shooting that month and got much fewer touches in February. Recently, however, the rookie has been flirting with double-doubles (he’s averaged eight points and almost seven boards over the last three) and canning deep balls, making him a useful asset in deeper formats. Kaminsky is obviously a better dynasty option as the former Badger is buried in a deep frontcourt right now, but he can still be useful down the stretch if you need big man help and a boost of treys.

Now it’s your turn. Let us know in the comments below who your favourite Fantasy basketball waiver wire pick of the week is.

The Wire Troll: Amar’e Stoudemire Fills Big Shoes in Miami

February 6, 2016 | by Adrian Wallace | Comments Comments Off on The Wire Troll: Amar’e Stoudemire Fills Big Shoes in Miami
He’s addressed that issue in recent weeks and is really starting to fill it up lately with four efforts of 20 or more points over this last five games. Crawford’s play off the Clipper bench has been stellar lately and the fact that he’s canned 52.1 per cent of his attempts from the field over this stretch is all the more reason for you to grab this instant offensive contributor while you can.

NBA Today: Suns Hammered Again

The basketball gods have chosen to ignore Terry Porter’s prayers for more wins in Phoenix. The Wire Troll: Flip this House Edition

February 2, 2009 | by HC Green | Comments (2)
Unlike his on-again, off-again marriage, Shaquille O’Neal is now playing every game. Centres Shaquille O’Neal, Phoenix Suns: With Shaq no longer sitting out a game in back-to-back situations, there’s no longer any reason for him not to be owned in all leagues. He’s probably on a roster in your league already, but just in case […]
